Mechanicals & Drywall

Once the shell has been completed, the next step is to "rough" install the mechanical components of the house. Heating, Air Conditioning, Electrical and Plumbing lines need to be installed. Additional items such as telephone lines and cable TV wires are also placed at this time. Better quality homes feature highly efficient gas hot air heating systems and gas hot water heaters. Electric service should consist of a 200 Amp service panel with circuit breakers and copper wiring. The plumbing system should utilize copper feed lines and PVC waste lines.

After the mechanical components are installed, the walls are covered with drywall. The drywall process includes fastening the drywall panels to the studs. To reduce "nail-pops", all drywall should be secured with glue and screws. Once the drywall has been fastened, the entire area is taped, spackled and prepared for painting.
