Your
next decision is whether to hire a Realtor or to pursue the process
on your own. With so much information available on the Internet, some
buyers feel they want to try to "go it alone". By doing
this they feel they can save money and not have to be "hounded"
by a Realtor who is only looking to make a commission. This is a common
mistake made by buyers. A good agent is invaluable in the process
and most times the agent's fees are paid by the seller as part of the
normal "commission". The key is to select the right agent
for you.
Some
things to consider when selecting an agent:
Are they experienced
and knowledgeable?
Do they know
the market?
Do they have
the resources available to complete the transaction?
Most importantly,
do you feel comfortable and trust the agent?
The
best way to determine which agent to utilize is to interview several
agents. Print the following AGENT
INTERVIEW CHECKLIST and use it as a guide. Once you have selected
your agent, you will be asked to enter into a "Business Relationship
Agreement". This is an agreement between you and your agent where
each is committing to working with each other for a specific period
of time. It is crucial that you receive a GUARANTEE
that allows you to terminate the agreement if the agent fails
to perform their duties as promised.
